Note: This is the first in a series of guest posts while I am on vacation. This post is courtesy of my coworker Jonathan Palmer. JP is as industrious a photojournalist as you will ever likely find. Much of The Decatur Daily’s multimedia work has been done by Jonathan and he does a great deal to help old dogs like me learn new tricks. Check out our online slide shows and Soundslide Shows here.

As creative members of society we all derive inspiration from somewhere. It may be from great thinkers of an era, masters of a craft, or colleagues in our field. For me, it is all three. In my career I have pooled my resources from experiences and insight by people like Gary Cosby and Dave LaBelle who I know and call friends, but also photographers, like Henri-Cartier Bresson and Horace Bristol whom I have read about. Cosby asked me to make a post for his blog in his absence so I thought I would share some books that have inspired me.
